Two springer spaniels (like the ones pictured) are Brisbane City Council's newest staff members..
The pooches, Taz and Nutmeg, are on board as part of the city's koala protection program.
They've been trained (by OWAD Environment) to sniff out koalas in bushland, to give an idea of how many are around and so their droppings can be collected for testing and research.
Here's the catch though... these dogs don't come cheap.
The Council's splurging $121,000 hiring the dogs for a 5 month period.
They'll be targeting areas like Keperra Bushlands, Toohey Forest and Wynnum Road Park.
