Bendigo's Police force is renewing calls for residents to strengthen their home and car security -- with a new taskforce to tackle the rising incidence of burglary.
Superintendent Darren Franks says there's not much the local force can do if people don't try to prevent crime themselves.
In Greater Bendigo -- there's been 600 break ins during the last 12 months -- and 30% showed no evidence of forced entry.
Another concerning statistic is a 50% rise in car thefts.
