The Australian Scholarships Group released its Planning for Uni Index Tuesday morning estimating the total cost of a degree for students.
Researchers behind the Index say regional students continue to pay the premium for furthering their education -- especially because a majority need to leave home -- incurring tens of thousands of dollars more in costs.
The Index tallies course fees -- living expenses -- transport -- computers -- study placements and accommodation.
CEO of the ASG John Velegrinis said “Many students, particularly those from regional areas, don't have the opportunity to live at home while attending university. Many have no option but to rent if they want to attain a degree.”
