Bendigo doubles chance to host academy

Qantas to have two regional Pilot Academies

The Qantas Group will announce the location of their Pilot Academies in the coming weeks after confirming they’ll need two locations to cater for demand.

Almost 17 thousand people have registered their interest in joining the Academy with Qantas Group expecting the graduates to fly commercially, for the defense force or for services like the Royal Flying Doctors.

Up to 500 pilots would be able to be trained a year at the two sites - with the first expected to be operational next year and the second in 2020.

Bendigo is one of the 9 regional cities shortlisted to be the location of one of the academies along with Alice Springs, Dubbo, Launceston, Mackay and Wagga Wagga.

Executives met with the City of Greater Bendigo last month with talks described by council as ‘productive.’

Premier Dan Andrews addressed the announcement yesterday, stating the government would provide support to the Greater Bendigo council to help ensure Bendigo is one of the two regional cities chosen.
