Bendigo Police Thank The Public After Arresting "Danger To The Community"

Bendigo Highway Patrol have finally tracked down a man and woman, suspected to be behind a number of traffic incidents and petrol drive offs over the last two weeks.

The pair were arrested in a tense operation at a CBD parking lot yesterday morning, the 30 year old Long Gully man is reported to have caused thousands of dollars worth of damage to several vehicles trying to escape - before being overwhelmed with OC spray.

A 31 year old California Gully woman was also apprehended at the scene.

Last week, police sources told our newsreader Elle Gentle that listeners had provided consistent and solid leads after hearing the story broadcast.

Diligent and watchful people did the right thing letting Bendigo Police know when the couple had been sighted on our roads.

After the arrest, Acting Sergeant Peter Dyer told the Bendigo Advertiser "The danger this person posed to the public in the last week is the worst I have seen in 25 years.”

The man has been slapped with 59 charges overnight while in custody, and the woman is up on 11 offences including theft.

Both will appear in Bendigo Magistrates Court today.
