A health milestone for South Australia.
From today, children aged under 4 can get a Meningococcal B vaccination for free, making us the first State in the country to introduce the program.
Currently, it costs parents up to $500 for a full vaccination course to immunise their kids.
An expert group has found it's the best possible approach to combat the disease.
From April next year, teenagers aged 14 to 19 will have access to a combined A, C, W and Y strain Meningococcal vaccination.
There have been almost 400 cases of Meningococcal B reported in South Australia since 2000, including 14 deaths.
