MOVE THE CAR: A Severe Weather Warning Has Been Issued Across South Australia

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm weather warning across southern South Australia with wind gusts in excess of 90 km/h predicted to occur.

“A strong cold front, crossing southern Eyre Peninsula and Kangaroo Island at midday, will move rapidly east, reaching the Adelaide area mid to late afternoon and eastern border areas this evening. Damaging winds, squally showers and thunderstorms accompany this front. A follow up frontal system will generate very windy conditions on Saturday.

“Northwest to westerly winds increasing to 50-65 km/h with gusts in excess of 90 km/h for a period ahead of the front, persisting for a few hours"

“A band of squally showers and thunderstorms accompanies the front, with scattered showers to follow. Damaging wind gusts in excess of 90 km/h are likely to occur with the showers and thunderstorms. Short bursts of heavy rain are also likely with the thunderstorms.”

Locations affected include: Adelaide Metropolitan, Mount Lofty Ranges, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Mid North, Kangaroo Island, Riverland, Murraylands, Upper South East, Lower South East and parts of West Coast districts.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:

* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.

* Secure or put away loose items around your property.

* Stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe.
