The Largest Chocolate Factory In Australia Just Opened In Adelaide Today!

Haigh's Chocolates is opening a new state-of-the-art processing plant at Mile End today.

The $15 million factory will produce up to 2,000 tonnes per year to meet demand, up from the current 700 tonnes.

It's now the largest cocoa bean processing plant in Australia and the most modern of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere.

Chief Executive Alister Haigh says "we purchased equipment from Europe that isn't available here in Australia".

"Engineers from abroad spent many months on site assembling it.. we then underwent an extensive testing process to ensure we are replicating the exact chocolate products made with our old equipment" he said.

The additional capacity will allow for continued growth in Australia and potentially overseas.

"We have seen increased demand across the eastern seaboard as well as online meaning continued growth for the Haigh's business".

"We are also looking at expanding to overseas markets due to interest abroad" Alister said.

The South Australian company employs over 600 staff with an annual turnover of $50 million.

It owns and operates 17 stores in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra and online

A tour at the site will be held from 10am-11am.
