7 SA Suburbs Caught Up In Groundwater Contamination Saga

Chemical Can Cause Cancer

7 SA Suburbs Caught Up In Groundwater Contamination Saga

There's a push to ban bores in seven sites across Adelaide.

Around 7,000 residents have been told there may be contaminated groundwater in their area.

The EPA's warned of toxicity in Edwardstown, South Plympton, Plympton Park, Park Holme, Ascot Park, City of Marion and Melrose Park.

They're holding community consultation to help decide whether to ban bores in the affected suburbs and try to eliminate human contact with the chemical Chloroethene.

It's been linked to causing kidney and liver cancer if exposed for a long period of time.

The solvents are only passed on if people drink or put groundwater in their swimming pool but could take decades to 100 years to break down.

A series of four info sessions are being held and start on September 5.
