It seems like Zedd’s hit The Middle has taken over the world. At the Hit Network, we’ve got the volume up high and we can’t get enough of Maren Morris’ vocals on the track.
On first listen, Morris sounds like a pop starlet. It’s true - she’s a superstar in her own right with a Grammy under her belt - but did you know her roots are in Country music?
Morris has been in the business since 2005, but found her big break in 2015 with the release of My Church - a tribute to the greats of this hallowed genre.
Following its success, Morris released her studio album Hero. She landed four Grammy nominations, walking away with the award for Best Country Solo Performance (My Church).
Her success has put her at the forefront of the music industry, leading to her collaborations with Zedd and heartthrob Niall Horan. In fact, the ex-One Direction star loved her so much he invited her to join him on his first solo Australian tour!
Even though Country music flies under the radar in Australia, Morris has already made a mark on music fans. I haven’t seen many support acts receive such an applause and welcome quite like her at Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne (7/6/18). The fans knew all the lyrics as though she was the headliner and her engaging stage presence only added to the experience.
Her set was also quite extensive, giving new listeners an opportunity to digest her songs. Her American singles 80’s Mercedes and I Could Use a Love Song were highlights, including her surprise cover of Beyoncé’s Halo. It seems she can do it all.
Can we expect more pop tunes from Maren Morris in the future? Will she come to town on her own headlining tour? In whatever way the next chapter unfolds, it’s easy to say 40,000+ new fans are already craving more.
