Cyclone Likely To Develop

Article heading image for The Latest On The Low

The big ā€œCā€ word has dropped in the north. Cyclone. But what are the actual chances the low will develop into a cyclone and when/where will it cross the coast if it does? According to the BOM (Bureau of Meteorology) the low pressure system is still lingering southeast of the Papua New Guinea mainland. It is forecast to drift southward, before turning more westward towards the North Queensland coast. Conditions are favourable for this system to develop, and the probability of it forming into a tropical cyclone will steadily increase into the weekend. The system is likely to make landfall on the north tropical Queensland coast early next week. Townsville City Council are advising residents to continue with early cyclone preparations.
